While many parts of the world are dealing with increasing temperatures, herding families in Mongolia are struggling to cope with increasingly extreme temperatures at both ends of the scale. -40° c in the winter and +40° C in the summer.
British TV chef and author Si King, best known as one half of the Hairy Bikers, went to Mongolia as part of IFAD’s Recipe for Change series to see how the UN’s International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has invested in projects with the government of Mongolia to support herders to adapt.
The Project for Market and Pasture Management Development has been providing new water wells, giving training in fodder management and setting up early warning systems to get early forecasts on extreme weather.
